Hi Members and Parents, The Academy had a very successful camp on the weekend if we gauge it by the thank you and appreciation cards from a number of the 'raving fans' who attended. The experience gained by Instructors and Senior members will certainly benefit our children in the future. Our "ORIENTATION TO MATCHES AND MATCH PRACTICE DAY" on Sunday will be time tabled as follows: 8:00am - 9:00am Little Leopards 9:00am - 10:00am The Dragons 10:00am - 11:30am Samurai & Adults The classes will all have themes as outlined in the special name for the day. Children should attend dressed and equipped as for their normal training sessions. The day will be a special day for children and not set up specially for parents to spectate as with our normal Karate Kid Tournaments. There will only be the normal few seats available for parents. The children will gain experience that will maximise their enjoyment at our next Karate Kid Tournament in early 2007. We request that parents leave their attendance to support the children until this event. We hope all parents will encourage their child/children to attend on Sunday. Thank you for your understanding and support. Best wishes, Graham Keleher |

Renovations; Training Schedule From Wed 9/11 till Tues 14/11 |
||||||||||||||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hi Students and Parents , I hope all is well with everyone. Our Dojo renovations are proceding well. Thank you for your patience whilst our foyer and office floor were being stripped of carpet, sanded and polished. This latest improvement would make our Academy the healthiest, safest and most 'body kindly' building in Australia. Impact wear to the hips, knees and ankle joints is almost entirely eliminated with the sprung wooden floor boards and competition matting. Somebody mentioned this week that the floor was like walking on a cloud after being on the tiled floor that they worked on all day. The elimination of the carpet has also eliminated the potential dust and mite problems that could develop as a result of the carpet. The antique polished floor boards are the start of a plan to make our dojo a very special place for members. With the further planned changes, the internals of the building will be that of a traditional Japanese Dojo rather than the present modern cottage or gym look and feel. A friendly reminder that our Autumn Camp is on the weekend of 11, 12 and 13 November. The camp is well attended and promised to be WOW. I confirm that there will be no classes at Wishart during this camp. Classes over this period will be as follows:
Thank you all for the support of our Academy. Best wishes, |

| Kumite Plus Summer 2004 |
|---|
To Members, Parents and Friends of the Australian Academy of Martial Arts, Some time ago we had a very special training session at our Redbank Dojo, called Kumite Plus. It consisted of 2 hours of Kumite training along side members from all branches under Sensei’s Keleher and Hamilton. This session was followed by a dinner and drinks. All who attended have sung its praises ever since as both a great training session and social gathering. As this year marks the tenth year of operation of the WAMA club (West Moreton), we would like to hold another Kumite Plus followed by some Kata and Kihon Kumite demonstrations by our senior WAMA members to celebrate this occasion. Our full AAMA coaching team, lead by Sensei’s Keleher and Hamilton, will be available to help you improve your Kumite techniques. Both the training and demonstrations will be of a very high quality as many AAMA members have represented both Queensland and Australia which means there will be a distinct benefit for your own training. A buffet meal (BYO drinks) will be provided after the demonstrations. We will be holding this event on Saturday the 28th of February at Redbank Dojo, Redbank School of Arts, Brisbane Terrace, Redbank. Kumite training and demonstrations will be from 4pm – 6pm. The meal and socializing will commence at approximately 6:15pm with the night concluding at approximately 7:30pm. The cost is $10 per player which covers coaching, hire costs and food. All adult students are invited and encouraged to come along and enjoy this special event. Children who are recommended as suitably competent by their instructor are also very welcome. Parents, family and friends are encouraged to attend to support members. Price is also $10 per head with a maximum of $25 per family. Download the Kumite Plus Summer 2004 form here and return to your instructor along with the fee of $10 per person (Maximum $25 per family) by the 27th February to ensure your place in this very special event. Many Thanks for your support. Murry Burrows 3rd Dan |
| AAMA's Kagami Baraki, 2004 |
|---|
January 7th, 2004, was the day for AAMA’s “Kagami Baraki”, which we were all overjoyed to celebrate together as the first training session of the year. The literal translation of “Kagami Baraki” is the “unveiling of the round mirror” or “mirror opening”, where students gather and celebrate the New Year and renewing of our spirit. The “Kagami Baraki” also ‘reflected’ some of the training that was directed at the goals we hope to achieve in 2004. All students persevered through the class filled with plenty of group engagement, enthusiasm and spirit. With the brilliant, humid Brisbane weather, students are congratulated on their perseverance in challenging themselves in the hands of self pity while achieving self satisfaction and gratification at the end of the class. It was great also to see our branch members in attendance and entering the spirit of the night with their gestures of good will. As a great reward towards ourselves and each other, a relaxed post “Kagami Baraki” barbeque took place! Best wishes to all in reaching those higher steps and pushing comfort barriers in the greatest goals of growing, accepting others and accepting ‘the man in the mirror’! Click here for Pictures. |
